Build And Scale Your Planet Friendly Business

On this weeks show we chat with Laura Rana from Khushi Kantha (Happy Blanket) who partner with sustainably-minded members of the Bangladeshi garments industry to breathe new life into 'deadstock' cotton fabric by upcycling it as the inside layers of their blankets.Laura Rana is the founder of Khushi Kantha (Happy Blanket), a social enterprise creating opportunities for mothers in Bangladesh to provide for their children with dignity and contributing to the circular economy, promoting a shift from take-make-waste to reclaim-repurpose-reuse. Khushi Kantha makes sustainable, hand-stitched, multi-purpose baby blankets. They are regenerating the Bengali ‘kantha’ tradition of upcycling old cotton saris into ultra-soft, multi-layered blankets, in order to meet global hygiene and safety standards, while retaining its circular principles, and bringing the cultural heritage of Bangladesh to a wider audience.Laura was inspired to start Khushi Kantha by the birth of her half-British, half-Bangladeshi twin daughters and her long-standing dream to use everything she’s learnt from twelve years of working with struggling mothers in Bangladesh to build better futures for the next generation. She has fourteen years of experience in the international development and humanitarian sectors, supporting organisations including Save the Children, the British Red Cross and War Child UK to understand, measure and communicate their impacts. We are keen to hear about how Laura sees sustainability as a multi-dimensional concept (i.e. going beyond environmental sustainability) and how she has applied this thinking to launching her social enterprise, including trade-offs she's had to consider, and the impact measurement. The HubFizz Show is always a snappy 10 minutes packed full of interesting and useful content and this week is no different.Find out more about Khushi Kantha:
